Masonry Blog
What is masonry?
Masonry is the building of structures from individual units laid in and bound together by mortar. The common materials of masonry construction are brick, stone such as marble, granite, travertine, limestone; concrete block, glass block, and tile. Masonry is generally a highly durable form of construction. However, the materials used, the quality of the mortar and workmanship, and the pattern the units are put in can strongly affect the durability of the overall masonry construction

OUR PLEDGE
Is it still possible to find a company that values its customers and craftsmanship?
Believe it or not, you have found one. It is our pledge at RL Sanborn Masonry to
provide 100% satisfaction to each and every customer, every time. These days in
a world filled with large corporations, there is little in the way of competition.
Consumers are often left with a handful of choices, which are all about the same.
The only noticeable difference, at times, is unique marketing. Since we feel it is
unethical to point fingers at our competition, we will use examples that do not
apply to the construction trade. For example, you might be convinced to buy a
hamburger or car insurance because the clown mascot or the lizard spokesman
is more entertaining than the human actor, the other company uses. Then again
what does entertainment have to do with car insurance or a clown with
hamburgers?
Purchasing a smart phone, choosing a utility company or even a restaurant, these
days, can lead a person to wonder what has happened to quality products and
sincere customer service. Have you ever purchased electronics that were state of
the art, the day you made the purchase, and then a month later there was
something new and much more advanced? Have you ever signed up for a cell
phone plan and your cell phone breaks before the contract ends? If so you were
probably left with the choice of paying full price for a replacement phone or having
to pay on a contract, which you cannot use. Did it make you wonder if the lifespan
of the phone was purposefully less than the span of contract?
It is the pledge of RL Sanborn Masonry to provide professional expert masonry
services and to complete projects without cutting corners. Most corporate giants
simply spend more advertising dollars and increase rates to offset poor quality
products and services. They implement massive multimedia advertising
campaigns that are just impossible not to notice. The mass marketing leads one
to believe that the product and service is superior, when in reality it is often not. It
appears that the whole concept is intended to destroy competition and eradicate
quality customer service. If a consumer has no options, they are forced to comply
with whatever level of service that is offered or go without. Have you ever seen
hundreds of people standing in line all night long, just to get a discount when the
store opens? Does that company really care about the people who are sitting
outside the door, in the cold all night? Of course not, but it sure draws a lot of
attention. Lots of gimmicks mean lots of attention, no matter who gets hurt.
If ABC Company designs and markets a cell phone product that is unbreakable,
with a 3 year warranty and free upgrades, you will probably never notice because
the big cell phone companies are doing everything they can to make it invisible to
the public.
What sets RL Sanborn Masonry apart from most other construction companies is
our genuine commitment to preserving Maine’s masonry infrastructure. Simply
put, we are not in business to cut corners. Even though our customers may know
little about proper masonry procedures, we never let that stand in the way of doing
the job 100% correctly. A Masonry project may look fine, even though proper
masonry procedure was not observed. You will only notice it was done improperly
when the masonry begins to fail or when you notice water infiltration issues. There
are companies who will certainly provide low estimates, which is tempting, to say
the least. When it comes to masonry, there is no margin for error. An inexpensive”
fix” can cost big dollars down the road. There are companies today, who will focus
only on the bottom dollar and forget about every other factor. We pledge only to
provide the utmost in quality and the best possible customer service.
